Fellow Friends/Volunteers : The Oregon Zoo is pretty much the only zoo world wide that offers this oppertunity to teenagers: taking care of the animals. We run the farm which includes the care of chickens, rabbits, sheep and goats. We also care for the animals in "The House" which include things such as taiwan beauty snakes, hydrosaurs, corn snakes, doves, an armadillo named geronimo, opossums, and various other critters. Besides this we get the opportunity to work WITH the keepers in all the different animal enclosures during the leadership corps winterprogram. (aka - africa, northamerica, birds, primates, ect.) and get behind the scenes tours in certain areas in order to be able to give presentations to the publics, the most common of which are pinnaped or penguin talks. The Oregon Zoo also spends a great amount of time on conservation of not only exotic species, but natives as well. We have a world renouned asian elephant and humbolt penguin breeding program, were the first zoo to feature a predator/prey exhibit (aka: pacific shore and north american fish exhibit), are one of the few who has a focus on native animals (including pygmy rabbit breeding, fender blue/oregon silver spot restoration, and western pond turtle raising/release programs, and condor offsite breeding facility). Despite being small, we constantly rotate through exhibits and try to update our old ones as fast as possible. Coming soon: Predators of the Serengetti. Featuring: lions, cheetahs, wild dogs, caracals, and much more

Arch Cape, OR : Stark colors, yes? Every day is a different sky show there. That's my grandfather sitting there after the storm at sunset. The next day was the gorgeous sunset from the previous picture. We've gone there every summer since before I could remember. Him, Grandmama and myself.
